"Supply chains face huge challenges"
On its 50th birthday, the swap body is more in demand than ever, because cargo space is currently in short supply. This applies not only to Europe, but especially to intercontinental trade.
This year, we say happy 50th birthday to the swap body—a true DACHSER invention. It was an innovation that changed the entire logistics industry at the time.
To this day, as our standard container, it is still the benchmark when it comes to efficiency. And with the number of shipments in the European groupage network at a consistently high level, it is in any case currently more in demand than ever—a situation that’s not about to change much in the second half of the year.
Concerted effort by all players
On top of that, we face additional challenges: The driver shortage has worsened in the Corona crisis. High prices for wood are causing a shortage of pallets. In sea freight, container prices continue to rise sharply: Pandemic-related handling problems have built up huge backlogs in the ports, which can only be dealt with gradually. In air freight, on the other hand, we are again succeeding well this year in creating reliable capacity for customers with our own charters.
Still, if logistics has proven one thing in the past, it is that it can respond extremely flexibly and robustly to changing market conditions. We will manage this once again this year, but it will take a concerted effort by all players along the supply chain.
